I have been etching glass mirrors for many years and have recently joined the Glass Art Guild to learn other techniques in working with glass and share the work I create.
Glass art holds a fascination for me—my own work started with glass etching in an arts & crafts class in high school—I loved working with the etching and the mirrors and have been doing it ever since. My art has been a progression that started out with etched (white) vs. mirror and has gradually moved to an airbrush style that gives more form and dimension through shading.
I find inspiration from so many different things: things that stir a strong emotion—whether negative or positive emotion. Positive emotions are often drawn through my family (big part of my inspiration), and things that I perceive as beautiful, powerful, or passionate. Sometimes though the art is inspired through a negative emotion, something I wish to change or things that have hurt me or those I love. My life has brought both miracles and tragedy—and my art is a reflection of all those experiences.
Why do I create art? I guess it’s selfish—I feel good about the things I create. It makes me feel special that I can create something interesting and unique. I give a piece of myself in the art and it makes me feel good that I can share this part of myself—and that others can also enjoy my creations.
