Nathan Snyder

I began my glass in the summer of 2001, when a friend gave me an open invitation to come to his shop and watch him lampwork. I spent hours each day just watching him, hypnotized by the spinning glass in the flame. After watching for a year, I got a torch of my own and began to practice the things I had learned from watching. It was a lot more difficult than he made it look.
I have worked with 3 different lampwork artists over the years and learned a great deal from them all. But the majority of my ideas come from trial and error. I tend to do thing the wrong way at first, to learn what not to do, and then move forward from that point. I try and be as in the moment as possible when creating on the torch, because that is where the vast majority of my ideas emerge into successful one of a kind pieces of art.
I currently have an at home studio in Provo that I work out of at night. I work exclusively with Borosilicate glass, which is a very high melting point glass, with the most optical clear you can get.
