I’m a person who always stayed away from art, thinking that some are born with creativity and some—like me—aren’t. A friend took me to a warm glass class and it was fun. Later I was encouraged to make a small slumped dish, and suddenly I was hooked. In particular, I like putting colors together and having them work (or not…).
I love that while there are many technical rules when dealing with glass, there are no creative rules: have an idea—try it! Warm glass offers the chance to play with color: to watch it change as layers are added, as it reflects light, as it takes on texture.
What I like most about working with glass is evolving and trying new things. I include literal patterns in my work: patchwork, angles, circular things (using copper wire), and someday I hope to be able to cut a circle!
I have been working with glass for about a year and have benefited greatly from working with two friends—we critique, encourage, and laugh, and our projects improve each day. We recently established Ollie’s Hot Glassworks, named after our mascot, my Golden Doodle, Ollie.
I have exhibited my work at the Finch Lane Art Barn, the Unitarian Church, and at a local SLC gift store.
